My God, My God...Why?

“And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying,‘Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?’ that is, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’”(Matthew 27:46, ESV)

On the cross, Jesus cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”This was not a cry of despair alone—it was the echo of humanity’s deepest wound.

From the moment of the fall, humanity has lived with this cry. It was not God who first abandoned us; rather, we turned away from God. By eating from the forbidden tree, humanity chose disobedience, and that disobedience created a great gulf between the holy Creator and His image-bearers. Sin fractured the relationship between Father God and humankind, and no human effort could repair it.

There was only one way to bridge this gap…… “The Cross.”

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, stepped into that separation. On the cross, He stood between God and humanity—fully divine and fully human. When Jesus cried, “My God, my God,” He was bearing the weight of our alienation so that we might be restored. He entered our forsakenness so that we could be welcomed again as children.

Because of the cross, we no longer cry out in distance, “My God, my God,” but in intimacy, “My Father, my Father—Abba!”The gap between God and humanity has been bridged by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God.

That Friday was dark, brutal, and painful for Christ—but it became Good Friday for us.For at the heart of the Christian faith stands the cross of Jesus Christ. Through His death and resurrection, God accomplished the redemption of sinners and released hope into the world.

May the deep contemplation of this Good Friday draw us into deeper devotion, renewed gratitude, and a richer experience of God’s grace.May the cross shape our faith, our worship, and our daily lives.

Happy Good Friday! God bless you!
